Aftercare

You finally did it! You got the tattoo you always wanted. Here are some simple steps to ensure your tattoo heals properly.

Ointment Aftercare:

  1. Gently wash your tattoo with dial antibacterial soap 2 to 3 times a day with warm water and pat dry. Use a thin layer of Redemption or Aquaphor. Don't use a rough towel, instead use your clean hand as to not irritate the skin.

  2. Please be mindful to clean the tattoo after working out or becoming dirty from work/being outdoors.

  3. Please sleep on clean linens the first few days after being tattooed. You want to avoid dander and bacteria as much as possible since it’s an open wound.

  4.  Do not wear clothes that will stick or rub against your tattoo. The looser the better.

  5. DO NOT scratch or pick at your tattoo. This could cause irritation, scabbing or ink fall out, which could lead to paying for a touch up.

  6. DO NOT use lotion until the tattoo is completely healed, it is an open wound, not dry skin.

  7. You should repeat this process for 2 weeks or until healed.

  8. NO swimming, hot tubs, or baths until fully healed. You don’t want to soak it, or expose it to any bacteria or chemicals.

  9. Avoid tanning beds and the sun until healed. Use sunscreen over your tattoo once healed. The sun will cause fading overtime, so use SPF and be careful!

Saniderm Aftercare:

  1. The first piece of saniderm should remain on for 24 hours. It MUST be taken off in the shower. This is important because it could be painful to remove. It acts as a second skin.

  2. After removing the first piece, clean the tattoo with antibacterial soap and pat the skin dry, DO NOT apply ointment or the second piece of saniderm won’t stick to the tattoo.

  3. A second piece may be applied after the first 24 hours. It may remain on for two to three days. If you're not using a second piece follow the ointment aftercare.

  4. Everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently. Saniderm typically leaves the skin red around the adhesive marks-this is normal. You will see plasma and ink pool under the adhesive-this is normal.

  5. Use your discretion as when to remove the saniderm if you feel something is wrong. You know your skin better than anyone.

  6. Avoid this aftercare option if you have any adhesive allergies.
